Effect of Pupil Size on Corneal Aberrations Before and After Standard Laser In Situ Keratomileusis, Custom Laser In Situ Keratomileusis, and Corneal Refractive Therapy
23/11/2010 | external link
Conclusions: The 3 techniques increase the wavefront aberrations of the cornea and change the relative contribution of coma-like and spherical-like aberrations. For a large aperture (> 5 mm), corneal refractive therapy induces more spherical-like aberrations than standard and custom LASIK. However, no clinically or statistically significant differences existed for narrower apertures. Standard and custom LASIK did not display statistically significant differences regarding higher-order aberrations. (Source
Ocular aberrations after wavefront optimized LASIK for myopia

Conclusion: In spite of an excellent visual outcome, WFO Lasik induces significant higher order aberrations. Large ablation zones reduce the induction of spherical aberration. Femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis versus conductive keratoplasty to obtain monovision in patients with emmetropic presbyopia
23/11/2010 | external link
Purpose: To compare visual outcomes, complications, and patient satisfaction after femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and conductive keratoplasty (CK).Setting: Private laser clinics, Reading and Southampton, United Kingdom. Methods: In this retrospective consecutive single-surgeon comparative study, presbyopic emmetropia was treated with femtosecond LASIK or CK to achieve monovision by targeting −1.50 diopters (D) of myopia in the nondominant eye after a successful monovision contact lens t
Visual outcomes after wavefront-guided photorefractive keratectomy and wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis: Prospective comparison
23/11/2010 | external link
Conclusions: Wavefront-guided PRK and wavefront-guided LASIK had similar efficacy, predictability, safety, and contrast sensitivity; however, wavefront-guided PRK induced statistically fewer HOAs than wavefront-guided LASIK at 6 months.Financial Disclosure: No author has a financial or proprietary interest in any material or method mentioned. Scattered ultraviolet emissions during refractive surgery using a high-frequency, wavefront-optimized excimer laser platform
23/11/2010 | external link
Conclusion: Results indicate that the excimer laser platform used in the study may yield greater UV exposure than previous systems; however, the levels did not exceed occupational exposure limits.Financial Disclosure: No author has a financial or proprietary interest in any material or method mentioned. Not only was this patient overcorrected, the postoperative topographic maps show that the treatment was decentered (temporally) in both eyes. Primary hyperopic correction of more than 5.00 or 6.00 D with conventional or custom wavefront LASIK, PRK, laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy, or conductive keratoplasty is very difficult to treat without regression. Although wavefront-guided retreatment for consecutive hyperopia after primary myopic treatment has been reported, most patients had low preoperat

My experience at Finchley Road, London

Hi When I was trying to decide whether or not to have laser surgery I didn?t find many good success stories on here, only when treatment had gone wrong. I have decided to put my success story on here.I had Lasik Intralase Wavefront carried out on both eyes at the Finchley Road, London Optimax clinic on Thursday 13 August. My prescription was -3.50 in both eyes.I must admit I was very nervous and very nearly changed my mind. My surgeon was Sajjad Mughal. He is a very nice guy who put me at ease and ans
My experience at Optimax in Leicester

I initially went to optical express in Milton Keynes for a consultation, which the quoted me £3000 and this was with a £200 voucher. After checking online I?ve noticed that optimax were doing a half price offer ? Intralase Lasik wavefront for up to £1995. So I booked the consultation in Leicester. I found out that I was suitable for the procedure and decided to book in for the surgery. I also went for their payment plan, which they took a photocopy of driving license and bank statement. I was originally qu

HiBackgroundI had been wearing glasses for 11 years, until last year when I tried contacts. Contacts for me never really worked. I have a minor astigmatism and the first lens that I tried did nothing to correct this. They were fine for distance but I could not read a book or a computer screen. It was then suggested that I should try a Toric lens which I did and my vision was much better, but the lenses are thick and I could look in a mirror and see them. A friend told me that having laser treatment to cor

I read these blogs constantly before going for my own surgery, so I thought I would add my own experience. I couldn't find much on my surgeon or on the Birmingham clinic when I was looking, so I hope this helps others trying to find some info.I'm 22 and my prescription was -5.5 in the right eye and -5.75 in the left eye, no astigmatism.I have been wearing glasses since the age of about 10. At about 14 I switched to lenses and these worked great for me until I got an eye infection and my eyes couldn't tole
