£400 voucher on ebay - genuine?
10/11/2010 | external link
Have seen the save £400 on ebay and brought for £1.99. Has anyone experience of this offer? I am being brave and going for the scapel option (cheaper). Have been saving for two years for this and with the £400 off can now afford it. If the offer only applies to the 'all frills' option at £3K + I will need to think again. The advert doesn't state terms and conditions.
Why has my post regarding differing costs been removed???
10/11/2010 | external link
I posted here a few weeks ago regarding the different charges made by Optimax for the same treatment-now my post has been removed and no reason has been given! I assume Optimax would prefer to charge everyone the full price-this is no reason to remove a perfectly valid post from a supposedly open forum. I would appreciate a comment from Russell Ambrose explaining Optimax's differing pricing policies. I consider it rude and inconsiderate to remove without comment a polite and obviously relevant (judging by the number of readers and comments) post from this forum.

Price of eye laser surgery?
10/11/2010 | external link
I am wondering what the price of eye laser surgery is in the UK.From what i heard it is around ?1000 per eye in France. From what i read lasix surgery cost is around $1000 per eye in the US. Nevertheless on another blog, i found that the cost of eye laser surgery was more around $2000 per eye.My question is what is the price in the UK? Also does a higher price mean better quality surgery? Thanks!
LASIK Risks and Benefits
10/11/2010 | external link
I want to share this article that I read about Lasik.Since Im also planning to undergo in the near future. Hope this one will to give more knowledge about Lasik. Most patients are extremely pleased with their LASIK results. LASIK eye surgery benefits include improved visual activity, freedom from corrective eyewear, and possibly new career opportunities. Patients who achieve a successful LASIK outcome can eliminate their need for glasses or contact lenses, and enjoy the freedom of clear vision at all times. Patients can play sports, swim, spend a day at the beach, and participate in various activities without the restrictions that glasses and contacts bring. LASIK eye surgery is a safe and effective treatment that has continued to gain popularity among patients. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with LASIK, but in the hands of a highly skilled and experienced surgeon, LASIK is a particularly safe and reliable procedure. Nevertheless, you should talk with your surgeon about any risks associated with the procedure, as well as all the benefits. Keep in mind that at Lasik-1 your care will be entrusted to an industry leading surgeon who uses some of the most advanced LASIK technology available today. Godbless
No Discount Offered. Nothing!
10/11/2010 | external link
Well after reading lots of posts here on the forum, I am pretty dismayed that I have missed out on any sort of discount. I believe I had the "full works" done on both eyes.....Lasik with Intralase and Wavefront. I would of thought someone at the clinic would of at least offered me a little bit of something.I did mention at the consultation, that my brother-in-law reccommend I went to Optimax. In a previous phonecall to Optimax arranging the consultation, the operator even took my brother-in-laws name and address. But when I mentioned this at the consultation, they said,"I was too late and have missed out." What on earth is that suposed to mean? There are posters all over the clinics offering £100 vouchers if you reccomend a friend, so why didn't Optimax honour this for me and my brother-in-law?Angel x
effect on existing eyesight

When I made an enquiry and had tests at a rival company. About 18 months ago I was told that my eyes were perfect for laser correction but was warned that I would lose my 100% perfect close up vision and would need reading glasses if I had my short sight corrected. Is this still the case?
Payment options
10/11/2010 | external link
I know that their is no credit check but I am in a trust deed(IVA) and need to notify the lender of this if i obtain credit over £200. It is in the later stages of the agreement and I can definately afford the repayments no problem as ive been in continous employment for 11 years with the same company. Is this likely to be a problem? Is it posible to get the interest free loan in my girlfriends name if not ?
How can Optimax offer check-free credit?
10/11/2010 | external link
I'm intrigued how Optimax can offer credit without a credit check. Most other surgeries rely on outside companies to manage their credit and debt-collection, but this comes at a a cost, financially as well as an impersonal response from the credit firms and a non-guaranteed result.
£500 off refer a friend scheme
10/11/2010 | external link
Hi all,I had my surgery in June 2008 and I am very pleased with my results. Recently in the post I have received a letter stating a "refer a friend" scheme. This entitles the people I refer to Optimax £500 off bilateral interlase lasik with wavefront. This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other and is only available to those unknown to optimax (ie. if you have never contacted them regarding laser eye surgery). If anyone is interested in this then send me a personal message and I will contact you regarding this.Shelley
COst for Intralase lasik
10/11/2010 | external link
I was wondering if anyone knows that cost of intralase lasik? I am currently booked in with Ultralase to have my surgery and was thinking i could probably get the same treatment cheaper? Though Ultralase offers the life time guarantee with any further treatments being free - do Optimax offer the same deal? Clare
Optimax in-house instalments
10/11/2010 | external link
I am looking at having surgery in the next month and would be looking at using the no credit-check in-house instalments offered by Optimax. I am aware that Tesco Clubcard reward vouchers are accepted by Optimax - do these need to be used upfront, or could I use them to make additional payments to Optimax as and when I get them, on top of the agreed instalment amounts?
Question
10/11/2010 | external link
Hello All,I am currently in the process of choosing a eye correction laser treatment company. My prescription is relatively high left eye -7.75 and right eye -8.0. I have done some research around ten hours, and have found a lot of conflicting information. The array of options is quite daunting. I have always tried in all my major decision making processes to decide on the best quality at the lowest price (Sounds obvious however difficult to achieve). The big question comes down to what is the acutal difference between Optimax and Ultralase. I will start with the case for both companies. Optimax suggests that you can get the same treatment with them for half the price of the other major companies (I presume this is in reference to Ultralase etc). Ultralase suggests that the treatment and lifetime guarantee service offers enhanced results. With Ultralase due to my high prescription Ultra Elite with Lasik and wavefront seems to be the best answer (Recommended to me by Ultralase consultant) . This will cost around 4k. I have a appt with Optimax in January 2010. From my research if I am recommended for surgery, it will be wavefront lasik intralase blade-less technology like Ultralase. However the cost is likely to be around 50% discount from Ultralase and lesser discount with others. This information seems to be understood by most and widely available. From what I can understand the ONLY advantage held by Ultralase with the treatment, Ultra Elite is the added capability to smooth out minor imperfections in the eye. Which I think that Optimax cannot achieve with their equipment. Everything otherwise seems to be the same equipment wise.THE BIG QUESTION THAT WE ALL WANT TO KNOW, IS WHAT IS THE EXACT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPTIMAX EQUIPMENT AND ULTRALASE EQUIPMENT ??????. The Ultralase lifetime guarantee (Including free retreatment if required) adds much weight to the Ultralase option. The Optimax lifetime guarantee seems to only be really valid for one year retreatment wise. I do expect to need retreatment maybe one or even two more times in my lifetime, which again seems to add weight to the Ultralase option(Costs!!) due to my age 25 years old.I will conclude by evaluating in my opinion, that Ultralase might be better if you are younger(higher or lower prescription), and hence the inital higher costs will be outweighed by the retreatment costs saved. Optimax might be better if you expect to have one treatment in your lifetime and no further treatments.I would much welcome any futher posts, and the question what is really the difference between these two companies and others. I havent decided yet but I think Ultralase would be best for me due to my age and my potential retreatment. Hence I cannot see any real difference between Optimax and Ultralase. Thanks for reading,James
From £395 per eye?
10/11/2010 | external link
When it says from 395 per eye, does anyone actually pay so little? From a look over the forum most people seem to be paying a hell of a lot more. I have enough Tesco vouchers to pay for the treatment if it costs around 395 per eye. But wondered is it obviously going to be a hell of a lot more???

1 year update and still 20/20 vision

Here is a summary of my treatment and the last 12 months:I originally went to one of Optimax's competitors, but during the consultation I felt like I was on a conveyor belt, no real personal sevice and they avoided my "risk" questions.Couple months later I went to Optiimax at Canary Wharf in London for a consultation. Very personal, very thorough and gave detailed explanation of my "risk" concerns. My mind was put at rest.I then went home and did some Research on the consultants available and decided to have the treatment at Optimax in Finchley, London. On 9/9/09 I had Intralase Wavefront Lasik Treatment in both eyes. I was short sighted and have astigmatism. Treatment itself was completely painless. Couple hours after treatment I had some discomfort, but never had to take the painkillers I was given.Day 2 I had one bloodshot eye and it was slightly sore (felt a bit like a contact lens that has dried up).Day 3 I had a follow up test...vision already the same as when I wore contacts.Day 7 and vision is now 20/20. No discomfort whatsoever. Having treatment was one of the best things I have ever done.Day 14 and I feel like I have experienced a miracle. daytime and night time vision is better than I ever had with glasses or contact lens. Here I am 3 weeks later, all the sport I do tennis/football/golf is so much better with my "new eyes". I am really looking forward to going on holiday next month to a hot country, when normally I would suffer from dry eyes with contact lens.November?.just been on holiday and it was wonderful not to have to suffer from dry eyes with my contact lens. The clarity of my vision was really highlighted on my trip.December and is fantastic how I can see all the Christmas decorations and lights so clear and colourful. On 20 Dec had my 3 month check up, both eyes confirmed at 20/20 vision and both have healed completely. Everything about this surgery has exceeded my expectations.March, and I have just returned from a skiing trip. Once again having had laser eye surgery has given me yet more benefits. I was able to see the awesome view of the Alps in crystal clear vision for the very first time. And I was much better able to read the pistes and plot my journey, avoiding ice and other dangers. This was my best ever ski trip.Haven't mentioned this before but I am also a football referee, refereeing in amateur leagues in Surrey. Let me just say I am having my best ever season, so much easier to make those decisions when your eyesight is 20/20.It's now April, wish it was a bit warmer, but enjoying the beautiful colours of spring. It's now May and enjoying swimming in the outdoor pool at my health club, another activity which is so much better without contact lens. It's now June, am looking forward to watching the World Cup and being able to view the TV screen in the pub no matter how far away, Oh the joys of having 20/20 vision. It's now August and am still enjoying the outdoor life. Currently doing some football coaching with school kids at summer camp. Great to be able to be outdoors come rain or shine and not have to wear contact lens or glasses.September and went for my 1 year check up at Optimax (by coincidence on the exact anniversary of treatment 9/9), amazingly my sight had improved again. Consultant said my eyes had healed perfectly and I was now officially discharged.Having laser eye surgery was money well spent, and I will save money over the coming years by not having to buy glasses and contacts lens. And potential patients I still have some £500 off vouchers for treatment at any Optimax branch:Optimax have now improved their offer. The offer is:-free consultation-£500 off Wavefront treatment (with Lasik or Lasek)-interest free credit. To get this offer simply e mail me for one of the vouchers (it is part of their recommend a friend scheme). I will post the voucher to you free of charge.stephen bmcfcfan@btinternet.com
